PSPS Backup Battery Rebate Program
Description:

To reduce wildfire risk, Xcel Energy may temporarily turn off power in specific areas. This is called a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS).

Some customers in medium and high wildfire risk areas (Tiers 2 and 3) who use medical equipment that relies on electricity could be impacted by PSPS events. A whole home battery energy storage system can help provide power for medical equipment during a PSPS and give customers more time to plan to get to safety when a PSPS is required.

What This Program Offers

We’re offering a rebate of up to $10,000 for a battery energy storage system for Colorado customers who are enrolled in our medical assistance programs and who live in Tier 2 or Tier 3 wildfire risk areas. This includes parts of Routt, Moffat, and Rio Blanco counties.

Eligibility Requirements

You qualify for the PSPS Battery Rebate Program if:

Please note that customers can participate in both the PSPS Backup Battery Rebate Program and Renewable Battery Connect but cannot receive a rebate check for both programs.

How to Apply

  • Check Eligibility
    • Review the requirements above and confirm that you’re eligible for the rebate.
  • Contact a Local Battery Installer
    • Reach out to a local battery installer to get started.
    • A licensed battery installer must submit the application for you as part of the installation process.
    • Please note, Xcel Energy cannot recommend specific battery installers.
  • Choose your Installer and Battery Equipment, and Get a Quote
    • Decide what battery system or equipment you’d like to install.
    • Your chosen installer will visit your home and provide a quote for the battery system.
    • If you choose to proceed, the installer will provide a contract for you to sign.
  • Sign Required Agreements
    • Sign the Program Agreement. You may also need to sign other Xcel Energy agreements, depending on your system.
    • Please note, your installer may ask you to sign the Program Agreement when you first sign your contract.
  • Your Installer Starts an Interconnection Application
    • Your chosen installer works directly with Xcel Energy to submit an Interconnection Application on your behalf.
  • Your Installer Installs Your Battery
    • Your battery will be physically installed while the Interconnection Application is in progress.
    • Once the battery is installed, your installer will request an electrical inspection from your local county for the installed equipment.
  • Receive Permission to Operate
    • At the end of the application process, you will receive a Permission to Operate email. This email authorizes you to turn on your battery system.
  • Receive Your Rebate Check
    • Your rebate check will arrive within 4 to 6 weeks after you receive your Permission to Operate email.
    • The rebate check can be mailed to an alternate recipient. Many customers choose to direct the check to their installer. In this case, the PSPS Battery Rebate should appear on the installer invoice as a deducted line item.
    • You can also direct the check to yourself if that is your agreement with the installer.
